This paper examines advanced coaching practice in a performance setting. Building on previous coaching papers, the focus is on developing learning environments that support skill development and adaptable performers. Working in groups, students are expected to design programme and systematically analyse and critique coaching practice.

How this paper will be taught

The paper involves one 1-­hour lecture and one 2-­hour workshop per week. You are expected to attend all workshops. Please arrive early and be dressed appropriately for high intensity activity. It is recommended that you bring water for hydration and appropriate clothing/footwear for sport.
The paper will be highly discursive and problem based, with assessments that will require engagement in the activity and significant independent reading. It is expected that you will also engage in class­-work / group work outside of the lecture times in order to be successful in the paper.

The class will be organised into coaching teams. The teams will organise themselves, plan and run practices, and compete in an end of season tournament. There will an multiple opportunities for students to coach throughout the semester.

You are required to attend 1 workshop per week. Workshops will be student­ led coaching sessions. You will be given a HUDL account for performance analysis/coaching analysis that will be available for assessments.

To ensure your safety and well- ­being, the following safety requirements must be upheld:

1) wearing of flat soled, closed shoes and comfortable, appropriate clothing for sport and physical activity
2) disclosure of any current and recent medical conditions that may effect participation in sport and physical activity
